Sharing innovative sustainable initiatives with our friends in US
Mac & Michelle are taking a long awaited trip to share sustainability initiatives with their friends and clients at the studios in the US.
Creating positive change through innovation is vital and they are keen to share sustainable practices that are taking place in the UK – and to learn about developments in the US.
The reduction of waste through thoughtful planning is key to be able to drive forward environmental sustainability in film & TV.
“ We work closely with most of the major studios and it’s beneficial to meet in person to discuss how we can work together to adopt a more sustainable approach to production assets. It is about communicating good practice and how we can all do better. We really need to strive towards a zero waste policy across production for their physical assets. And this is where technological innovation can help” Michaele Apostolides
“We have developed such a close working relationship with the studios, we feel it’s time to take the conversations further about thorough and thoughtful end of life planning for production assets. We need investment in reuse strategies. We are very excited because this is the first time back in LA since 2020 – so we have a jam packed schedule. As well as meeting our clients, we are also visiting other Reuse Organisations that help productions reach the zero waste standard of 90% of waste diverted from landfill or combustion” Michelle French
They will be discussing with the Studios how they can now calculate the comparative carbon emissions produced by recycling or sending production assets to landfill, versus the impact of repurposing or sharing materials from CAMA Assetstore’s warehouses. Through their new calculator, being developed by Climax Community. They can now provide production companies with the tangible impact of implementing sustainable practices across the film and television industry.
And of course there are the social value and community benefits of reusing items that would normally end up in landfill.

Aware of the carbon emissions of their trip, they have set themselves targets for the number of meetings and discussions around sustainability they can have – to counteract the environmental impact! They are also offsetting their flight and hotel emissions through Gold Standard.
CAMA are currently auditing their carbon emissions through Climax Community and SME Climate Hub and the results will be published in January 2023 with an actionable carbon reduction plan.
