Circular economy for props with LSA
At CAMA, we work alongside productions to redistribute and recycle items that are no longer wanted after a production has wrapped. These items are heavily made up of props, sets and costumes. We prefer to reuse and redistribute items, to give them another life and avoid them turning into waste.
During lockdown last year we were introduced to the London Screen Academy (LSA) through our work with We Are Albert.
LSA is a free sixth form academy for students aged 16 to 19 years old. The academy is redefining what creative education means through partnerships with London’s best teachers and professionals working in film and TV.
By working with the LSA, we have been able to donate items to help educate the next generation of film makers. This allows us to close the loop on production items and create a more circular economy.
One of our first donations to LSA required IP clearance from the production company that it was coming from. This was cleared and resulted in the production company offering to host an IP introduction masterclass for students.
We have since made some more exciting donations to the school during lockdown.
Nicola Teale, Teacher of Costume at LSA: “I couldn’t believe how much there was when we returned from lockdown. A lovely surprise!”
Our last donation required multiple delivery trips because of the size and number of items. It included a number of props and mannequins and even a wooden boat.
Sakhile Shann, Industry Curriculum Manager, said the following kind words about CAMA:
“CAMA have been the ultimate collaborators with us here at LSA. They provide a brilliant service which is mutually beneficial for all of the organisations along the chain. It is so wonderful to be thought of when CAMA are passing by to donate to other charities or when they know they will have surplus materials. As a new and state-funded school, we are trying to build up aspects like the prop store and we are grateful for all the help we can get. Individuals throughout the film industry are amazingly supportive of LSA and CAMA have even shared access to their online inventory. Just recently, we had students desperate to find specific props for films they are shooting outside of school hours and CAMA were able to deliver these too. We are so grateful for the help and efficiency from the whole CAMA team and look forward to working with them long into the future.”
