The Essex Serpent, hosted by CAMA, wins Planet Positive Award at BFDG Gala
The British Film Designers Guild has announced the winners of its 12th Production Design Awards.
Winners include ‘Wednesday’ for International TV Drama, ‘Cyrano’ for Independent Feature Film, Period, ‘Empire of Light’ for International Feature Film, Period and ‘The Batman’ for International Feature Film, Fantasy.
This year was the first time the BFDG has awarded their Planet Positive Award, supported by Universal Pixels. The new award, has been developed in association with albert and sustainability agency Creative Zero.
We are thrilled that The Essex Serpent, nominated by CAMA won this special new award.
“Having worked with the art department and production team (in particular the Sustainability Officer Lily Limmer), on The Essex Serpent it was very clear that the crew were committed to working more sustainably in very challenging circumstances in the Essex Estuary and salt marshes” Michaele Apostolides.
Michelle French “I loved the novel The Essex Serpent and so was thrilled when we were supporting the production. The scenes in the Essex Estuary are breathtakingly beautiful, whilst both eerie and sinister. We wanted to nominate the Art Department for this important award because not only did they recreate the 18th century Essex landscape so incredibly, taking viewers on a journey across the beautiful marshes – they were also committed to reducing the environmental impact of their work. This new award will send a signal to the rest of the Film and TV industry that the Art Department fully supports sustainable methods of working and hopefully encourage others to follow suit! Delighted they won and we could celebrate with them”

Commendations were given to ‘The Peasants’ which used a self-designed solution of cardboard bricks to build the set and Art Department Assistant India Pim for facilitating the sale of refuse carpet onto charity No Floor No More which provides cheap carpeting solutions to low-income households, avoiding land-fill at the end of the production.
