Sharing sustainable networks – BECTU Scotland & Film London
We had the pleasure of meeting Mairi Claire Bowser, Sustainability Manager for BECTU Scotland and Laurence Johnson, Sustainability Manager for Film London, in person at our Dagenham depot. We discussed sustainability in film and TV, our distribution partnerships and demonstrated our unique asset management software*.
It’s fantastic to see more sustainability-based roles growing in the industry. Working together to reduce the amount of waste and redistribute and production assets from film sets.

The Importance Of Collaboration
We believe the most important responsibilities of those working within sustainability is collaboration; sharing of information and ideas to develop our networks and impact. We all have the same goals. Zero-waste, reducing carbon emissions and recognising our social responsibility of supporting our local communities.
Implementing strategies and providing tools for progression into the circularity of production assets is our number one priority.
Our Role In Driving Sustainability In Film &TV
CAMA Assetstore provides a specialist service to productions to aid them in doing this in the most sustainable way possible.
Once the production has striked we sort through and redistribute the items back into the industry. Where that is not possible, donations to charities and various organisations. This is done predominately using our unique asset management*. As we can see exactly what they have asked us to recycle/redistribute we can make the decisions remotely. This removes the need of dropping boxes and sorting through every item manually. From the portal, we decide who is best suited for the various items and create the orders.
Building connections with Mairi Claire at BECTU** and Laurence at Film London*** has and will help us to grow our network and outreach within the industry and with other sustainable organisations.
About Our Portal, BECTU & Film London
*Our unique asset management involves the team taking photographs of items coming into store (Production & corporate), uploading them onto our portal and inputting information – ID, measurements, colour, details etc. The client is then given access to their account, allowing them to see what they have in store. They can then remotely make decisions about those items. They can create orders for them to be delivered, collected, recycled or donated wherever possible. The software has allowed clients to make sustainable decisions since they can access the portal whenever they need to. They don’t then purchase more items due to losing track of what they have in store. They also then don’t need to make unnecessary trips to the storage locations to find or make decisions about their items.
**BECTU Scotland is a union for creative ambition. They advise, defend and support members if they have any problems at work. They continuously campaign for better working environments, such as reducing long hour days, pay and increasing diversity. We are very fortunate to have a growing partnership with Mairi and BECTU.
