Hamnet 2

Designing Worlds: Proud to support Hamnet’s creative physical assets

We were proud to support the production of Hamnet, looking after and rehoming beautiful sets and props created for the film. It’s always a pleasure to see the incredible skill and creativity that designers and set decorators bring to these projects—work that deserves to be enjoyed well beyond the wrap.

The design behind Hamnet stands out for its attention to detail and emotional storytelling. Every element was carefully chosen—from building family homes by hand and using real Jacobean materials, to creating gardens that grew and changed during the shoot. The production design relied on texture, honest materials, and shifting colours to tell the story in subtle ways; warm, earthy tones giving way to cool hues as the story shifts, and thoughtful use of candlelight to set the atmosphere.

These choices made the everyday world of Shakespeare’s family feel authentic and alive.

At CAMA, we understand these aren’t just movie props or set pieces—they’re the result of collaboration, research, and hours of craft. When productions like Hamnet finish, we’re on hand to provide secure storage and tracking, making sure each unique item is protected and accounted for. Most importantly, we do our best to ensure these assets aren’t left gathering dust: we help them find a second life on another production, or in the hands of arts organisations who will value their story.

Sustainability is at the heart of our mission. By making it easy to reuse and repurpose sets, props, and costumes, we help the industry lower its environmental impact—cutting waste and supporting cost-effective production, while keeping amazing work in circulation.

In the latest episode of the Film & Furniture Podcast, host Paula Benson chats with Hamnet’s award-winning production designer Fiona Crombie and set decorator Alice Felton about bringing Shakespeare’s world to life through rich, tactile details and emotionally charged design. They share how every element—from hand-built houses and living gardens to the subtle shifts in colour, light, and materials—was used to reflect the story’s emotion and authenticity.
